Only 5% of plastics are recycled. Plastic bags are in the air, on the ground, the beaches, into the oceans and become part of gigantic plastic islands in each of the Atlantic and Pacific. The bags are ingested by all kinds of Marine life. They get caught in plastic rings. They suffocate. There are attempts to limit plastic bags by charging a fee to outright bans on their use. The City of Los Angles passed a ban on their use this year. Many places in Europe have banned them. But each of us can help in our own community by not using single use bags at all.
